Workshop
Sprint
January 2024
Along with Lucie Guerlet and Madeleine Roesch we redesigned the workshop at Lisaa with a new purpose in mind. We created a model making workshop, adapted to the different processes in making scale models. As we imagine students will have less resources available to them. as well as be under a heavier economic burden. This inspired us to include elements such as a library for model elements as well as a recycling station for materials. We designed a sheving system for the workshop, with detachable shelves to easily change work surface or transport models. The structure is made of steel profiles to insure longevity, and the shelves are cut from plywood with different types of finishes depending on use. Like this, when the bare plywood has been damaged too much, it can be refinished and continued to be used. We based the sizes of the shelves on the standard dimensions of plywood, making them easily replacable when they eventually become too damaged.
The shelves can be interchanged, making transporting models easy, as well as making it possible to change between the different work surfaces, such as painting, cutting gluing and assembly.
The reserve would offer easy storage for a large quantity of models, aleviating bringing fragile models home at the risk of breaking.
The large windows in the hallways allows the natural light to reach through the two spaces in the workshop, as well as bridge the gap between the two separate spaces.
The shelves can be set at different heights, allowing for both standing and sitting desks. The library would store miniatures available for students to use to decorate their models.
